Touching Night Skies – 50°06'44"N 8°40'36"E
Dense urban living space, buildings lit dramatically, street lighting, industry - it is difficult to experience the night as such from an urban environment. The night is getting brighter and brighter. To be able to perceive the night sky as it was the inspiration for the artists of the Romantic period, the most remote corners of Germany must be visited. On the other hand, the illuminated night is also a symbol of modern romanticism. With its effectively illuminated buildings, Frankfurt's night sky is one of the brightest in Germany. Touching Night Skies creates a space at a specific location (>> 50°06'44 "N 8°40'36 "E) where the focus is directed to the night sky. What does darkness mean in this city, for me? What is left of the firmament? Where are the stars? What is the bright night doing to me? Touching Night Skies is a temporary structure on one of the central squares in Frankfurt, right beneath the skyscrapers - the Rossmarkt. Visitors enter an intensely black corridor, an ambiguous place that offers an intense physical experience. After a few steps into the installation, the city can no longer be seen to the left or right - the darkness has enveloped the visitors.
Immersed in a black sea, only the bright night sky remains.
It is dark and bright at the same time.
